students in any field of study.
Students must have completed the equivalent of a master’s degree and be enrolled in a full-time doctoral program.
Eligible Country
- International Students
In addition to the criteria set by their respective institution,
applicants must:
- Be nominated by only one Canadian university,
which must have received a Vanier CGS allocation; - Be seeking financial support to pursue a doctoral degree (or combined (MA/PhD or MD/PhD) at the nominating institution; not hold, or
- have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR,
NSERC or SSHRC (e.g., CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship.

The requirements to apply for the Vanier Canada Graduate
Scholarship are as follows:
- First and foremost, you must be a Canadian citizen or
permanent resident. - Applicants must have received an average of 80% in all coursesbtaken in their undergraduate studies (including those courses used to meet admission requirements).
- You must have completed your undergraduate studies at
an accredited university in Canada. - You must have completed at least one year of graduate
level education with a minimum of 30 credit hours. - The scholarship must be awarded by Vanier Canada at the
time of application. The awards will depend on academic
performance and financial need.
