A further 29 British universities are in the worlds 500 best institutions. Oxford University is top, and the University of Cambridge is next, while the three best universities from London round out the top five. As ever, universities from London are leading the pack, and the top-ranked and best universities in Britain are Oxford, Cambridge, and ICLS.

Oxford University has fallen a spot from its ranking from last year, now being ranked as the 5th best University in the World, whilst its competitor, the University of Cambridge, remains at 7th. In eighth place for Britain is the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), which has fallen five places to 49th place in global rankings this year — the first British university from our Top 10 list to reach the Global Top 50. Just missing a spot in the top three for the UK is University College London (UCL), which fell two places this year to tenth place globally.
The only British university that specialises solely in sciences, medicine, engineering, and business, and one of Londons best universities, Imperial College London is ranked #3 by the Times Higher Education, and #4 by U.S. News. This ranking shows Britains best universities and colleges, according to the trusted Times Higher Education 2022 World University Rankings.
For instance, University of Londons Institute of Education (now part of University College London) is generally unlisted in undergraduate rankings, even though the IoE offers a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, and is usually recognised as being among the best institutions offering teaching and education studies (for instance, it was jointly joint top, along with Oxford University, in a 2008 research assessment ranking for education subjects, according to both Times Higher Education and The Guardian). The University of St Andrews seems to be truly outstanding on student satisfaction: the UK-wide score at St Andrews is 85 per cent. Durham University is consistently amongst the highest-ranked universities in the UK, with one of the largest proportions of students who are private education students in the UK.

The second-oldest university in England, and the top-ranked UK university according to CWUR, The Guardian, and The Complete University Guide, the University of Cambridge is a globally-recognised public institution, with almost 19000 students. The internationally-renowned University of Oxford is known for its high levels of student satisfaction, as well as having the lowest admissions rates of any top UK university, with a lower rate of under 15%.
